In the plenary of the Federated National Societies, held during the XVII ICTMM in October of 2008 in Jeju - South Korea, the IFTM board sanctioned the appointment of the City of Rio de Janeiro to house the XVIII Congress in 2012, year in which the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine will celebrate its 50th birthday and will hold its XLVIII annual Congress.
The theme of the Congress: “Neglected Tropical Diseases” is adequate for a Country that holds such a varied biome and the largest tropical forest of the world.
